METRo: free software provided by the federal government of Canada

In this talk, METRo will be presented. METRo is the road forecast software of Environment Canada. Miguel will address questions such as: why did the government choose to release this software under the GPL license? how was the community built? which tools were used and what has been accomplished since its release in September of 2006. Miguel will also talk about the plans for the future of METRo.

Miguel Tremblay, Physicist, Environment Canada

Miguel Tremblay has worked for Environment Canada at the Canadian Meteorological Center at Dorval since 2004. His first work at Environement Canada involved rewriting the road temperature model, producing METRo , released under a GPL license. He as a manifest interest in the new possibilities of the networks, as much for the aspect of collaboration, knowledge production and data dissemination.
