The number of GLUGS and FSUGS in India is increasing. The adoption of FLOSS has seen considerable rise in the last one decade in India. College of Engineering, Pune (COEP), has evolved a free software users group and also transformed many of the teaching-learning processes using FOSS. The institute has tried to engage with a range of members of FLOSS community, from free software activists to corporates, in order to promote adoption and development of FLOSS. While FLOSS adoption is on rise at a considerable pace, FOSS development still demands a thrust. The presentation is a perspective on experience, lessons and challenges in promoting FLOSS development in India, opportunities for FLOSS community and businesses.
