Basing business system software on open source code has both advantages and challenges.
This presentation will provide examples of how partnering with an academic institution for research and development of open source software projects in industry contexts can result in commercial advantage for industry and provide exceptional learning opportunities for students. A variety of approaches and different business models from very small proprietorships to medium enterprises will be discussed.
