Processing.js Digital Content Creation FestSeneca CDOT will be hosting a Processing.js competition during the first day of FSOSS 2013 where teams can win a variety of prizes. The Processing.js Digital Content Creation Fest will begin with an educational session led by Seneca CDOT’s Catherine Leung to introduce the language and prepare the teams. The competition will allow teams of programmers and artists to come together and create a piece of digital media based on specific guidelines, the goal of which being to create a themed and animated scene using the Processing.js programming language. The exact theme of the scene will be announced the day of the competition but the following aspects of the competition should be considered by potential applicants:
- The competition has a three hour time limit
- Teams may consist of 1 to 3 people
- The resolution of the scene must be 1000x800
- Art assets used in the animation must either have an open license or be owned by the participant
- Photoshop will be available on the competition computers for asset creation.All teams must possess basic programming knowledge. They are required to know at least one programming language that includes conditional statements, loops, and functions. Basic debugging skills are also a must [Java knowledge would be an asset but is not required].
The competition is open to anyone who meets the minimum competencies but programming and digital media students are strongly encouraged to come out and show off their digital content creation skills. Prizes for a variety of categories and accomplishments will be given out at the end of the competition.
- Popcorn Maker Competition
Popcorn Maker Competition
Seneca CDOT will be hosting a Popcorn Maker competition after an educational information session during the first day of FSOSS 2013. The event will have teams of 1-3 people use Popcorn Maker, its tools, and a video to create a unique piece of web content to try and win a variety of prizes. For a look at what Popcorn Maker is and how it can be used, please visit popcorn-maker-in-3-easy-steps.Teams will select a family friendly Youtube or Vimeo video two to four minutes in duration and use the Popcorn Maker suite of tools to create an informative/educational or entertainment video. Aside from the time requirements of the source video, there are no restrictions on what teams can include in their projects.
All teams must have a valid email address in order to create a Popcorn Maker account. An account can be made the day of the competition but those planning to participate in this event can also create their accounts beforehand. All entries, however, must be made the day of the competition in the time allotted.
Popcorn Maker is designed to be used by people with all levels of web understanding and skill levels. As such, there are no restrictions on who may participate. Prizes for a variety of categories and accomplishments will be given out at the end of the competition.
